Settle down everyone, this is not a senational revelation about goings on in the BB House, the contestants are not eating each other yet, though we live in hope. In fact I have not yet seen a single contestant from this year’s crop because I am absolutely hooked on BBC2’s Spring Watch. And its the Owls wot got me. Well let’s face it, Kate Humble is no Suranne Jones (the actress who brifly got me hooked on Coronation Street)
Las week I was watching late night footage from the live – action owlcam of the last chick in the brood hatching. Bill Oddie was enthusiastically explaining how owls ley eggs over a perios of some weeks so the first hatchlings can but on quite a lot of growth before junior appears. And as we are all being utterly charmed by the bewildered looking and helpless ball of fluff and cuteness, big brother owl jumps up and necks it. Goodie goodie yum yummm. First the baby’s head disappears into elder sibling’s beak, the body is a bit of a struggle and then we are left with a shot of two pathetic little avian feet hanging out of the bigger bird’s mouth and kicking desperately.
It was better than a Tom and Jerry cartoon.
So forget that collection of sad wannabees on Channel 4. If you want real reality, it has to be Spring Watch.
