It has always been said that what The North does today London will do tomorrow. In the case of the mayoral election though it took London 6 years to catch up. In May 2002 the people of Hartlepool elected H’angus the Monkey as their mayor (yes it really was six years ago.)
We’ll never know if as Hartlepudlians cast their vote it occurred to them that they may start a trend by electing a electing a caricature as mayor. (News report and picture - H'angus the Monkey)
As for H’angus though, we can’t fault the lad, he turned out to be quite a good mayor for the town.
We can only hope Bojo the Clown turns out as well for London.
(In the London mayoral election Boris Johnson (Bojo) the conservative beat Labour candidate Ken Livingstone.)
TODAY WE COMMENTED ON:
Eleven years after the new dawn, dusk has arrivedBit of a gloomy p.o.v. from a leftie, after all it was only a local election.
News From The Profit Centres Is the internet killing traditional media? Yes but not for the reasons this writer gives.
The voice of the people is develish odd Aristoltle appeared to argue "the wisdom of crowds." He had never seen facebook though.
Boris Town Give him three months and see if they are still cheering.
Market Forces A three month decline in the stock markets is a blip. A one day leap on the back og post election hysteria is "evidence there is no recession imminent." These people do not speak the same language as us do they?
Secret Cult of Mormon Sci - fi Fans Is Battlestar Galactica a covert vehicle for Mormon evangelising as has been claimed? Atheist Amanda Marcotte dismisses this kind of scaremongering which is probably the work of anti-Mormon evangelical Christians.
