An appalling piece of news today from Portugal concerns a British couple on holiday in the Algarve with their three young children. Thankfully in this case not of the children have gone missing although they are not where their parents think they should be.

As in the case of Madeline McCann though, we must once again question the heartless incompetence of the Portugese authorities. This time, when the parents were reported for disorderly behaviour after collapsing in a hotel lobby on returning titally rat arsed from a night out, police and social workers took the three young children into care.

How irresponsible was that? Have the Portugese authorities no sense at all. These parents will never be able to cope alone in a strange country without the kids to look after them?
