Just how far can politicians get their heads up their own arses?
Trying to clarify her ideas on how the knife crime crisis on Britain’s streets might be solved, Home Secretary Jaqui Smith yesterday insisted she had not proposed taking attackers to hospital to meet the people they have stabbed as has been reported in some tabloid newspapers.
Well, quite right, yeah. Can you imagine the accused standing over a stab victim’s hospital cot flanked by PCSO Tiny Littlebottom on one side and on the other by his brief who is whispering: “If this bastard gets in the witness box you’re going down for ten, now is your chance to finish him off and make a run for it.”
Even a Labour Home Secretary could see that idea is a non – starter.
Ms Smith told representative of the media yesterday that what she had meant to suggest was that people responsible for knife attacks should be made to attend “weapons awareness weekends.”
Does she think somebody who has stabbed at least one victim and possibly quite a few more is not aware enough of weapons?

Perhaps she's hoping they'll dump the knives in favour of something more devastating, a sub machine gun perhaps. Hey people still getting killed and wounded but knife crime figures... back to zero mate. Target met and exceeded. Result.
