Libertarians are worried that a new service launched by Google to monitor social trends poses a threat to personal liberty. As a launch pad for its service Google has provided 'Flu Trends, an application which will map the progress of 'flu epidemics by gathering data on searches featuring the word 'flu.
Google sceptics think the search engine giant is advertising its usefulness to governments with an interest in mass surveillance and social engineeering.
