As if a Social Worker’s burden was not enough to bear the government has decided to torture them. News has come to us of a task force that is being set up with the aim of improving the status of Social Workers.
Pity the poor Social Worker. Does the Government not think they have enough to cope with when trying to deal with demented geriatrics, care-in-the-community cases and dysfunctional families with their tribes of feral children and menageries of anally incontinent pets?
Apparently not. Members of this usually most apologetic and equivocating of profesions are to have “status” thrust upon them. As if it is not enough to face daily the near impossible task of helping people who do not want to be helped or worse, who resent being helped while at the same time beating themselves up for being white, middle class, articulate and familiar with the many possibilities of soap, now they must cope with status too.

Even in the light of failures like the Victoria Climbe case and the baby P scandal raising the status of social workers is far too harsh a penalty.

Does this mean it will be easier to get hold of social workers, and //actually// receive the support the person needs?
