      Many would say David Tennant has a claim to that title, but then Tennant had the benefit of CGI, better sets and (usually) better looking assistants.

    We hadn't heard of Tom Baker because he was a well known stage hand erm I mean actor. And or coyrse we had heard of Ma Baker, a big hit for Boney M.

  I've certain never heard of him, but looking at a photo of him on TV he does look the part.
